Muslim residents from Kwin Kaut village in Ingapu township, Irrawaddy division, are leaving the village due to uncertainty in the region. About two-third of the population has left for Hinthada and other towns.

M-Media talks to a local resident,

“In this village, there are very few Muslims. Since March 22, anti-Muslim letters have been distributed. There is nothing Buddha said, but only anti-Muslim stuff and messages related to jealousy. The letter said Muslims must be exterminated. We went to township chief for help, but he didn’t even agree to meet us. We met Kwin Kaut village chairman, but he only said vaguely about security matters, meaning they cannot take responsibility. So, two-third of Muslims in the village have left their businesses and homes. Now, there are only about 50 Muslims in the village.

M-Media learns that Buddhist business people who are competing with Muslims are leading and mobilizing supports for riots, and that they have allied with local authorities.

The resident said the remaining Muslims are unprotected, and there is no attempt from the authority to take actions against those who are creating disturbance.
