M-Media had a chance to interview a local resident from Pin Laung village, Wakhema township, Myaung Mya District, Ayeyarwaddy Division today at 2 pm, and the following is his comment on the abovementioned movement.
“In our village, Pinlaung, some stranger monks came here about a fortnight ago, persuaded some locals here, and founded the 969 team. This group covertly spread anti-Islam sentiments and propaganda. On the 18th, one member from that team, Hlaing Htun, loitered around Muslim houses from the village, and said foul words such as I assume that you Muslims are my (male sex organ in Burmese derogatory term).
A man living nearby the irrigation from 969 team abused Muslims merely to irritate them and start some problems, only when the police officer U Myint Swe came and halted him, it stopped. The monastery that follows 969 movement is Pyinnyar Dagon Monastery. When we went to mosque for the Friday prayer today, the Imam (Priest) told us not to be the victims of the riots, and to be patient and tolerant.”
In this Pinlaung village from Wakhema township, Myaung Mya District, people of different creeds have been living there peacefully; the total population of the village is about 1200, with over 100 Muslims.
