Some non-resident Muslim university students had difficulties to continue their studies in this academic year in Yangon since hostel owners did not accept them.
The students wanted to carry on staying in the hostels where they roomed last year. Nevertheless, the owners did not dare to accept them, worrying for the issues arising from the neighborhood as they were Muslims.
“I ever stayed in this hostel. I stayed in it during university opening season in previous years and returned home in holidays. When I called the owner to confirm my boarding for this year, he denied me. His reason is that I’m a Muslim , and so, he doesn’t dare to accept me on account of being afraid of upcoming problems made by others for renting rooms to Muslims. I’m going about searching other hostels but haven’t got a room yet so far”, a university student depressingly said.
It is reported that such situations occurred either in most of the cities and townships which had some universities, colleges and schools.
