Translation from Fake Pamphlets

Within these days, pamphlets which could create conflicts between different religious groups have been distributed in South Dagon Township, Yangon Division.

These pamphlets urge Muslims to kill non-Muslims and signed by Haji youth group, OIC small group (temporary). These violence instigating pamphlets have been circulated on social media and anti Muslim pages use these pamphlets to instigate hatred against Muslims.

A Muslim from South Dagon said M-Media, “I have never heard of the group signed on these documents. Moreover, there is very small numbers of Haji in youths. Mostly, old people and middle aged people go for Hajj pilgrimage. It is just a trick. They want to create paranoia among fellow citizens by using the word “OIC” which was misunderstood by non-Muslims. In accordance with what is written in these papers, it should be circulated secretly among Muslims only. Now these pamphlets have been posted on the walls of Buddhist houses. It is very clear that they want to create problem”.

“During the military regime, there is an able intelligence network which watches out all the political movement. Police department, Military Intelligence, National Intelligence, etc. These groups must have known those plots if Muslims actually have plan to attack non Muslims. If Muslims really distribute these pamphlets, arrest them and put them on trial. Now it seems that the government let these instigation done to create more problems,” a lawyer from Yangon expressed his opinion to M Media.

Regarding pamphlets which cause misunderstanding and possibly create conflicts among different religious groups, the government and police department have not issued any statements yet. Local and oversea Burmese media have also silenced on this issue.

During violence against Muslims in April and May 2013, there is a similar incident of circulation of fake instigating pamphlets urging Muslims to declare Jihad against non-Muslims, signed by administration officer of Lat Pan village, Kyaut Se Town, Mandalay. At that time, concerned religious organizations and Township administrative officers hold the press conference to clarify misunderstanding among locals people caused by these fake documents.
