Ethnic Kaman Muslims from Kyaut Phyu Escaping to the Sea in Arakan State

Many ethnic Kaman Muslims in Kyaut Phyu township have been injured and killed by Rakhines’ attacks today. Many houses were burnt down and destroyed as well.

M-Media’s local contacts said many Muslim families are trying to cross the sea towards Bangladesh to escape violence. There were 40 boats this morning, and another 30 were waiting for the tide good enough to move the boats.

“Many Muslims are dead due to Rakhines’ violence and terror today. We have only Bangladesh to run to, but we cannot run to anywhere else in Arakan state. If Bangladesh does not allow us to take refuge there, we can only be floating in the sea. We couldn’t bring food with us, and we don’t have fuel for the boats,” a Kyaut Phyu resident told M-Media as he sits on a boat.

His home was burnt down by Rakhines today.

A majority of Muslim residents in Kyaut Phyu are ethnic Kaman. M-Media learns that Rakhines have destroyed many mosques in Kyaut Phyu and that there are almost no Muslim left in town.

  • Sequels to lawless attack on Kyauk Phyu Mosque by Rakhine terrorists

Sequels to lawless attack on Kyauk Phyu Mosque by Rakhine terrorists

    Kyauk Phyu Township

In Kyauk Phyu Township, Rakhine State, after burning down the West Ward Mosque by Rakhine terrorists last night, the authority
falsely arrested a young Muslim who was assigned as a guard for that mosque for this fire-raising. The authority accused him of this arson instead of catching true Rakhine terrorists who committed this. Now about 300 Rakhines coming from other townships are mobbing in Kyauk Phyu. Though military forces have covered the township, they cannot control the riot.

“Rakhine terrorist declared their plan to destroy Muslims’ houses by fire. The army forbade their plan. But they replied the army that they would not certainly obey the army’s command and surely burn down the Muslims’ properties. And they also challenged the army that the only way to stop their activity is shooting to kill them. Now, 7 trucks of soldiers are securing the township. Last night, while burning down the mosque in the West Ward, a car drove violently across the East Pipesite Ward with high speed up to three times. At the third time, the local people were shocked and so drove away. During this arson, another Rakhine terrorist groups from Sapyin Kwinn Village which is only separated from the West Ward by an old dried fish farm tried to involve in the attack on the West Ward. That’s why police force had to stop them. And an honest Rakhine secretly informed that terrorist groups would offend another attacks on Muslims at noon. So, we are now distressing,” a Kyauk Phyu resident worriedly said to M-Media.

    Kyauk Phyu Township

There are 12 wards in Kyauk Phyu Township, Rakhine State and a mosque in West Ward was burnt down by Rakhine extremists at night on 22nd Oct. Very few Muslims live near that mosque. As a result, Muslims were not ready to protect the mosque against this arson. The authorities of Kyauk Phyu District have confirmed this news. At the present, army squads have covered that ward.

Most of those terrorists are not local residents but came from other townships. Only a handful of local people co-operated that mob to commit this crime. Rakhine Buddhists and Muslims had harmoniously co-existed in Kyauk Phyu Township before this criminal offence.

A Kyauk Phyu resident told M-Media that Thantwe Muslims now become worried about a consequential catalogue of terrorist attacks because of this terrorist outrage in Kyauk Phyu although solely two townships-Thantwe and Kyauk Phyu do not involve in Rakhine conflict.
